New Designers, Part 1, London, 9th July – 12th July

London’s Business Design Centre showcased the freshest talent from the UKs best design schools across textiles, fashion, applied arts, ceramics and glass. Overall there was an air of positivity despite the difficult market conditions expected for graduates, and we saw some innovative and inspiring work that’s sure to break the mould and prove that creativity wins in a recession. Key trends included obviously hand-crafted items, delicate and intricate textiles, natural materials, nostalgic references and upcycled products and textiles. Key colour palettes included barely-there neutrals and pale tinted pastels, or grouping clashing brights (pink and yellow were predominant).
