As part of our intelligence gathering process, Trend Bible constantly track and monitor the most prominent and forward-thinking stores, events and places internationally. Having recently flown to Paris to attend Maison & Objet, our trend researchers Clare and Naomi have curated a selection of the most interesting products and stores from their design filled weekend.
“With Merci being one of the most interesting design concept stores in Paris at the moment, it was only natural that we gravitated towards the Beaumarchais area where this store is situated. Merci have a constantly changing assortment of products and successfully source unknown, interesting designers and artists to showcase in store. During our visit, there was a focus on repair and re-use. We saw chairs being moulded from recycled plastics live in store, broken Japanese ceramics being repaired using 3D printed technology and a rediscovery of techniques from recycled textiles, like rag-rugging.”
“Just a few doors up is Bonton, one of our favourite places to explore new design for baby and kids. The store has fashion departments for babies and children up to 12 years as well as toys and decoration. Their childrens’ homeware selection offers the perfect balance between sophistication and fun, appealing to children and adults alike.”
“During our visit, we stumbled across a new find, a studio-come-boutique called Seize. This is down a side-street between the metro station and Merci. Seize, is run by a group of contemporary crafters who create and sell their products from store. They seem to be at the forefront of the contemporary craft trend and run a series of really interesting workshops such as arm knitting, which we’re desperate to try! The boutique sells beautiful handmade items including hand woven wall hangings, jewellery, scented candles and incredibly luxurious tea bags.”
Overall a great day which involved getting everyone's thoughts, ideas and reservations down on paper. I am looking forward to seeing how this information will be overlaid with the vital trend insights we need to drive new product development and long-term business growth.
