Playtime Paris and New York 2020 | Highlights

Our team recently attended the premier kid’s fashion and lifestyle trade shows Playtime Paris and Playtime New York 2020. The theme for the shows this year was ‘Be Happy’, celebrating what you do, not who you are. This was prevalent with brands introducing more unisex collections, bold designs, sustainable alternatives and encouraging caregivers to parent ‘their way’. Here are a few of our highlights from the shows.

Exploring Emotion

Moving away from labelling ‘good and bad’ emotions, children are being encouraged to accept and understand all of who they are and what they are feeling. Pipouette‘s doll collection comes with interchangeable faces, helping little ones to explore, communicate and manage their emotions. Beautifully designed ‘Calm Down Kits’ from Les Belle Combines provide everything parents need to manage small and big outbursts and express them in a positive way.

Trend Tracking AW19/20 Retro Recall

A rewind back to 70s nostalgia, with a focus on retro design and sophisticated colour palettes, came through strongly, as forecast in our AW19/20 Retro Recall trend. As a symbol of peace, inclusivity and hope, the rainbow motif continues to be important.

Gender Neutral

Taking influence from a Gen Z mindset with a desire for creative expression we saw brands become bolder with colour. Natural tones traditionally used for gender neutral palettes moved towards brighter and more creative colour combinations.
