In March, our Senior Trend Strategist Helen Jamieson, travelled to Chicago to attend the International Home and Housewares Show 2018. This was Trend Bible’s 4th year attending the show, where we present trends for home and interiors, report on trends coming through at the show and meet with our US client base. With more than 62,000 attendees and over 2,100 exhibitors, the week-long show is truly one of the largest shows for housewares.
Each year at the show the focus on ‘Smart Home’ grows. This year saw a specific exhibition space showcasing start-ups in the sector and there were numerous presentations being delivered on smart tech and the connected kitchen. We believe the challenge for brands and manufacturers is knowing when ‘connected’ or ‘smart’ functionality is right for product, or when it simply adds complexity that householders find overwhelming.
We continued to see the emergence of natural materials such as bamboo, stainless steel and ceramics in response to the emerging consumer mindset where environmental and toxicity issues around some plastics are becoming more of a conscious concern.
This report is broken down into six sections covering trends for Print & Pattern, Surface & Material, Shape & Construction, Colour, Innovation & Functionality.

We were impressed with the quality of the individual coaching. Not obtrusive or interfering, but genuinely steering the team to target objective.
