For 2024/25 brands will look for new ways to respond to the demand for conscious, considered and circular design solutions. Understanding these driving factors at the front of families’ minds will allow brands to influence consumers’ purchasing decisions.

Here we highlight three upcoming design trends brands should be paying attention to for baby & kids products and furniture in 2024.

Baby and Toddler Product and Furniture Design 2024

Baby & Kids product design direction for 2024/25 is calming and sensorial. Organic, soothing forms add interest to minimalistic designs whilst reused and repurposed materials create irregular textures and finishes that look and feel good.

The key design trends we’ve highlighted for baby & kids product design are taken from our 2024/25 On-the-Go, Feeding & Weaning and Nursery trend application reports, available to those with a premium membership to our trend platform My TrendBible. Focusing on Spring Summer 2024 and Autumn Winter 2024/25 trend forecasts, each report translates our four seasonal trends into design directions and inspiration for kids’ hard products and furniture.

Nursery & Kids Bedroom: Chunky Tubular Forms

As forecast in our Spring Summer 2024 Energy Guardians trend, creating a clean and uncluttered environment is key for the nursery and kids’ bedrooms. Exaggerated curves and biomorphic shapes offer cocooning spaces for both introspection and connectedness whilst marshmallow-like forms provide comforting spaces that children can use to relax and contemplate.

Chunky tubular forms inform everything from storage and furniture to decorative accessories. These freeform, amorphous shapes are ergonomic, enhancing comfort and inviting touch.

On the Go: Recycled Space Dust

Product design for on-the-go categories takes on a surreal and sensory aesthetic through our Autumn Winter 2024/25 Cosmic Nomads trend story, where sleek and minimal elements are contrasted with weird and whimsical forms. With this comes an exciting opportunity to experiment with playful protrusions, curious surface textures and ultra-matt elements to bring this modern space story to life.

Galactic surface finishes feature sprayed effects using recycled materials, bioplastics and composites that celebrate imperfections and irregularities. These space dust-inspired, galactic materials add three-dimensional qualities to update core on-the-go products like prams, pushchairs and travel systems.

Feeding & Weaning: Organic & Irregular Shapes

Our Autumn Winter 2024/25  Grow Gently trend influences a calming and nature-inspired aesthetic, one that is both uplifting and restorative. Organic, soothing forms and naturally warm neutrals bring an earthy quality to minimalistic designs whilst reused and repurposed materials create irregular textures and finishes that look and feel good.

Organic and irregular forms mimic the unrefined, yet delicate shapes found within nature. These simplified and curved silhouettes bring a gentle softness and fluidity to a broad range of hard products including plates, bowls and bottles. This can also be used to offer a more rounded alternative to highchair trays.
