Forecast for Home & Interiors Spring Summer 2023 and Autumn Winter 2023/24, we outline the key décor trends that brands should be paying attention to in 2023.

Here’s our top décor trends for 2023 to have on your radar, a useful way of tracking what you’re developing within your own collection or food for thought on what your consumers will be looking for. These trends create a visual setting for various consumer mindsets and will help you to visualise the style and understand the justifications for these key looks.

Key Colour: Maple Sugar

The bathroom has become a sanctuary space for rejuvenation and well-being. Consumers are looking for a pared-back space, focusing on taking control of their own environment whilst being mindful of their impact on the wider world. Neutral colours promote a minimalist scheme whilst accents of colour in uplifting hues can be used to inject personality. A soft and warming pastel is the perfect grounding for accents of colour to stand out and add clarity and individualism.

Statement Rugs: Interchangeable & Customisable

A focus on crafting and DIY tufting over the past few years has seen rugs grow as a key decorative feature. Modular rugs emerge as an extension of this trend, as early adopters look to the playful and expressive aesthetic of these DIY styles while adding modular functionality to appeal to the demands of future consumers.

Play with shapes that naturally slot together and allow consumers to fix rugs together to create extra carpet space. Look to waves, soft lines and fluid forms with natural bends, as individual rugs are layered together to create larger spaces or different shapes. Be inspired by Paris-based Charlen Studio’s collection of modular rugs in expressive patterns and wavy forms, which are styled to fit together in pairs. We also loved visiting the studio of @floor_story during the London Design Festival and love their experimentation with texture, depth and irregularity.

Wall Covering – Limewash

The limewash trend has arisen from the need for comfort and texture in neutral décor and an added health benefit of using limewash paints allows the brick and plasterwork to breathe, meaning less lingering moisture. The finish emphasises historical imperfections and projects a calm and soothing environment.

Similarly, we’ve seen an uptake in people exploring alternative wall finishes such as micro cements and venetian plaster techniques, providing a similar calming and textural solution to neutral décor. 2023 is the year to embrace the imperfections, optimise our wellbeing in the home and pay homage to our historical habitats. Material Focus: Boucle

This is the second winter season of bouclé gaining real popularity and it’s fast becoming the new short pile velvet solution for bed heads, sofas, chairs and soft furnishings. The nostalgic tufted material brings warmth and tactility to the home environment and it’s the ideal base texture for the heavily featured 70’s styling that’s emerging in many guises – from neutral laid-back lounge to disco-inspired entertaining spaces.

Mixing bouclé with natural woods or coated metals takes this material in various style directions, making it a versatile yet warming and comfortable choice as we head towards a winter which will be certainly chillier than the last.
