Kind + Jugend 2022: Tradeshow Highlights

Kind + Jugend, the leading trade fair for high-quality baby and toddler products took place from 8th to 10th September 2022. Thirty-eight countries were represented amongst this year’s 500 exhibitors, showcasing their latest design collections including products such as strollers, carrier systems, home textiles, toys, furniture and more.

Kind + Jugend 2022 once again hosted a series of exciting lectures precisely aligned to the demands of the industry as well as revealing their annual Innovation Award winners judged by a jury of international industry experts. Standouts from this year’s nine award winners were The Jiffle Wagon (winner of the World of Moving kids category) and BAVVIC Creative Building Blocks (winner of the World of kids toys category).

Here we highlight some of the key themes from the show across colour and material, sharing the strongest trends evidenced for the Baby & Kids market.

Colour Focus

Forest Green

ABC Design, Leclerc

Green was one of the most prominent colours evident at the show, with nature and outdoor themes still providing rich inspiration for baby and kids’ design. Forest green, in particular, was spotted across multiple categories providing a fresh, gender-neutral approach to baby and kids products. For strollers, prams and travel systems, there was a noticeable shift towards ‘dad-centric’ design with a number of brands featuring fathers in their campaign imagery. These versatile forest green shades tap into this shift, appealing to fathers and mothers alike. Chrome and black detailed pairings as seen at Leclerc give this shade a modern edge whilst a softer, playful interpretation is achieved when paired with mint green as seen at ABC Design.

Material Focus:

Teddy Bear Textures

Quax, Jollein

Another key trend spotted heavily at the show was the use of bouclé and furry, fleece fabrics as featured in our Spring Summer 2022 trend, Soul System. These soft, teddy bear textures bring a cosy yet luxurious feel to nursery furniture, whilst also tying into wider decor trends with a warm, neutral palette of cream, beige and coffee brown shades.

Material Focus:

Interchangeable Wooden Play

Kind + Jugend 2022
LiL House, Luula

Minimal, ply and MDF play products that champion curiosity-driven and open-ended play were another key standout at the show. These multipurpose and interchangeable products are designed to encourage children to construct, create and self-assemble. Colour is kept to a minimum, allowing tactile elements such as ropes, ridges and embossed patterns to lead the way.
