The Polynesian Islands provide the inspiration for this fun summer trend. Sailing across the Pacific Ocean, Polynesian Paradise is about embarking on a far away adventure where the journey provides as much excitement as the destination.
Published 2 years ago in our Spring Summer 2017 Kid’s Lifestyle Trend Book, we can now evidence Polynesian Paradise in major UK and US retailers. In this post, we explore how this trend has been interpreted in store.
The adventure and excitement around the ocean and all that lies beneath it provides rich inspiration for games, prints and product design. Sea creatures, particularly friendly whale motifs are seen in Land of Nod and Target for baby and children’s bedding and simple fish shapes for toys in Pottery Barn Kids.
Mystical and mysterious mermaid characters are key to this trend as they become trusted companions on an adventurous journey exploring the Polynesian seas. We see fabric mermaid toys at Pottery Barn Kids and Land of Nod and mermaid tail shapes creating playful bedding at John Lewis.
This summer story is translated through softly brightened pastel colours and rustic textures. We see ombre effects and colour dipping used for storage, bedding and woven cribs at Pottery Barn, Mothercare and Land of Nod. Pom pom detailng seen at Zara Home Kids adds a tactile playfulness to throws and blankets.
