Trend Bible Trade Show Report

Trend Bible attend the leading home and interiors trade shows globally to evidence and document emerging trends within this sector. Last month Senior Trend Strategist, Helen Jamieson, travelled to Chicago for the International Home and Housewares Show 2017.

With more than 62,000 attendees and over 2,100 exhibitors, this is truly one of the largest shows for international housewares.

A notable difference at the show this year was a greater presence from East Asian design-led homeware brands – their distinct design aesthetic that draws on heritage shapes and materials felt fresh, new and directional for homeware, a good example of our Spring Summer 2017 trend, Zen Clarity, coming in to play. We saw simple ceramic shapes and ‘Muji’ esque simplicity in these products.

This year’s highlights:

  • Retro colour was a key direction across kitchenware and serveware – the newest shades being Avocado Green, Egg Yolk Yellow and Off-White taking us back to the 1970s.
  • East Asian design influences were strong in serveware, kitchenware and decorative objects.
  • Brands are focusing on innovation and functionality. Air quality continues to be a key focus with brands designing products that tackle this issue but with the home aesthetic in mind, creating products that blend seamlessly into the home.

In our International Home and Housewares Show 2017 Trade Show Report we share the most important trends that retailers should respond to right now. The report is broken down into six sections covering trends for Print & Pattern, Surface & Material, Shape & Construction, Colour, Innovation & Functionality and Coffee Updates.

Our International Home and Housewares 2017 report is now available to buy from our online store. To download your free edit of this year’s report click ‘download now’ in the sidebar to the right of this post.
