Surface Design Show 2018
Over 5,000 people headed to Surface Design Show in London’s Business Design Centre this month, where more than 170 exhibitors from 15 countries showcased their very best in exterior and interior surface materials and treatments.
Our Trend Researcher, Rebekah Hutchinson visited the show to spot new and upcoming talent and interesting, innovative surface design. Here, Rebekah shares her top three highlights from the show:
FINSA UK, Surface Design Show 2018
FINSA offer a wide range of products manufactured using MDF and chipboard. They offer solutions for industrial, structural and decorative applications.
“FINSA’s immersive exhibit interested me at the show. They created a space using only MDF and Chipboard and customers were able to enter the space and put on a virtual reality headset. The technology took the customer into a virtual world, where they were able to change and customise everything in the space around them, from the materials and surface to the colours. With a consumer demand for personalisation, this is an interesting concept for Smart Homes of the Future” explains Rebekah.
Anne Kyyrö Quinn
Anne Kyyrö Quinn’s three dimensional, sculptural creations bring dramatic architectural elements to both public and private spaces. The luxurious acoustic wall coverings are handmade using sustainable 100% wool felt making them natural, durable and versatile. In terms of appearance, the intricate detailed designs are reminiscent of works of art.
Mirrl is a solid surface material on a Birch plywood substrate. It’s highly resilient, long lasting, waterproof and food safe. Made using a technique inspired by Japanese lacquerware from the island of Hokkaido, its distinctive organic pattern and interesting colourways would add interest to tabletops and cladding in kitchens or bathrooms.
