At the beginning of a new decade, we see homemakers adopt a more flexible mindset as they decorate their homes. An optimistic feel and a new approach to wholesomeness underpins colour direction for 2020. The home becomes a space to mirror this positive consumer mood. Consumers enjoy living in the moment, which manifests in two ways; through calm yet subtly engaging colours and joyful yet sophisticated colour pops and accents.
Trend Bible’s Colour Direction for 2020 outlines six shades chosen by our colour experts, and are based on our seasonal trend forecasts for 2020. These directional, yet commercially viable shades represent what we believe to be central to life at home. We have split them into two groups; for Home & Interiors and Baby & Kid’s Lifestyle, with three key colours for each.
Sweet Lavender, PANTONE 16-3931 TCX
An emerging colour group for 2020; fresh lilac tones create a contemporary feel. Reflecting an optimistic mood, Sweet Lavender leads the way into a new decade.
Left to Right: Laura Bird, Missana, Ara Thorose, Talbot & Yoon
Muted Clay, PANTONE 16-1330 TCX
For 2020, Millennial Pink grows up and evolves into chalky, baked tones. Muted Clay offers a down to earth, timeless quality for Home & Interiors. As grey based neutrals become saturated in the market, it injects much desired warmth into the home.
Left to Right: Happinez, Studio Pepe, Monk and Anna, Stoff Studios, Alysi, Mogg
Mayfly, PANTONE 18-0220 TCX
Mossy, olive toned greens create warmth, connecting consumers with nature and continue to be a key colour group for Home & Interiors throughout 2020.
Left to Right: Sandberg, Busnelli, Maddie and Becc Sharrock, Christian Lacroix
Nugget Gold, PANTONE 16-0952 TCX
The zesty bright yellows of previous seasons make way for Nugget Gold; a calmer, ochre-based tone that sees yellow remain a key colour group for Baby & Kid’s interiors in 2020.
Clockwise Left to Right: Bonton, Inside Closet, Trend Bible, Yumiko Higushi
French Blue, PANTONE 18-4140 TCX
Capturing the spirit of an Olympic year, this true blue adds a sporty, playful energy to Baby & Kid’s lifestyle trends for 2020.
Left to Right: Milk Magazine, BIG, Trixie Baby, Nuppu Tableware Maija Puoskari, Julie Ansiau, Tina Frey Designs
Dawn Pink, PANTONE 15-2205 TCX
As Baby & Kid’s lifestyle trends move in a more gender-neutral direction in 2020, pink evolves into a unisex shade with a mauve tint, making it a versatile colour for little ones.

Selecting Colour Through a Global Lens
These colours have been selected for their versatility and suitability on a global scale. All six key colours work well in both sunlit and shady conditions, appealing to homeowners in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres. Depending on the orientation of the natural light source, each of the hues will display a variegated tone throughout the day. Each hue can be used in varying quantities in interior design projects. Whether that be wall to wall colour, or simply as an accent colour for soft furnishings, home décor, furniture and print and pattern.
Harmonious Colour Combinations for the Home
No colour works in total solitude within the home. These six colours have been carefully selected to work in harmony with various coordinate colours, from neutral to bold across Spring Summer and Autumn Winter palettes. With an inclusive appeal in mind, both palettes embrace warm and cool nuances.
As Baby & Kid’s Lifestyle continues to be more and more entwined with Home & Interior trends, our colour experts have chosen hues that can easily be incorporated into the wider home. Blending both palettes makes for striking combinations.
