Kind + Jugend 2019 | Show Highlights

Written by Justine Jackson

4 October 2019

In September, the Trend Bible team headed to Cologne to attend one of the most influential trade shows in the baby and toddler sector, Kind + Jugend. Every year we attend the event not only to track and evidence our own forecasts but to also spot emerging trends that could influence the Baby & Kids industry.  During the show, our Baby & Kids team also presented the key trends influencing design for 2020 in the Kind + Jugend Trend Forum.

Here are just a few of our highlights from Kind + Jugend 2019:

Trend Tracking ‘Little Hiker’

At the show, we saw evidence of our Autumn Winter 2019/20 trend, Little Hiker. This autumnal story sees kids put on their hiking boots and brave the elements, trekking through mud, exploring trails and collecting nature finds along the way. Interiors take inspiration from outdoor pursuits and performance wear, with a mixture of practical and playful design.

Responsible Design

In response to conscious consumerism, we saw brands continue to opt for eco-friendly materials such as cork and bamboo in their products.  Longevity and multi-functionality also featured prominently across transport, furniture and toys.

Dusty Pinks

As forecasted in our Colour Direction for 2020, we saw brands move towards more gender neutral shades of pink across textile and accessory products, making it a more versatile colour for little ones.
